The issues of the particular sprint could still be considered as a track layout that everyone has to deal with
I'm not happy either, but it's way better than nothing. And I mean constantly decreasing number of active projects.

Shure, it could be seen like you mentioned. Each sprint costs me a lot of preparation and time when it starts even without such a barrier.
I don't want to spent even more time for such a bad managed tool as other BOINC-Projects show us, that they can manage it much better and we don't have these problems

Sometimes I manage to get some Asteroids tasks but it is not consistent. Then I see the message that Project has no tasks available. I don't like having idle CPU and GPU when they cost $$s to rent regardless of if they crunch work or not.
I agree ban Asteroids from Sprints.

it would be better to block Asteroids for Sprint,
my best Card, the 4090 runs every ~2 hours out of work and the retry time incrases to 2 hours or more.
The huge number of faulty Wu's makes this situation not better.

Have you tried reducing your internet bandwidth?

The time without task was not long (I have plenty of tasks on all 4 hosts now), the error rate is low and the wasted calculation time is limited (most failing tasks take 1 sec to fail), I don't see the point of wanting to "ban asteroid for sprint", frankly ridiculous.

No, it's not ridiculous !
I can run 11 CPUs plus up to 7 graphic-cards, that is 18 Instances that want to get work from the project. If the project ban's XX% of my machines that is not a fair competition.
Or what would you think if 50% of your hardware would get blocked by the project ?
Remember, we are in a one year competition and it is no fair challenge if some drivers get punished for having more computing-power than others.

Mmm I just wrote the above and then 3 out of 4 hosts don't get any more work
Am I the ridiculous one ?
And well, I don't have that many crunch power compared to the high-end competitors around here, I know, so probably the annoyance is not the same...

We're just crunching a current batch of Asteroids in 2 days instead of 3. The project don't have work enough for our super powers )

Yep, server out of work.
Really annoying with projects that have buddy validation because that encourages competitors to over-cache right at the beginning which leads to loads of tasks not getting validated throughout the competition.

Timbo,
please, no more Sprints with Asteroids, as long as they use this silly DOS / DDS - Blocking Tool
My Graka-Instances can't download enough WUs for continous crunching. The WUs are hanging in status "Downloading" and thats it
I have two "new" computers that try since Sprint-Start to download the necessary .exe but the download stucks at 30 to 50 percent. And yes, I have tried "retry" as often as possible.
You can check my stats and should see, that I'm one of your powerfull-Crunchers. But as long as Asteroids doesn't optimize their DOS / DDS blocking tool I will stop crunching Asteroids.
Other projects are using similar tools (your own words), but they manage it much better. I have only problems with Asteroids
Hi
Thanks for your comments hwoever I would respond as follows:
1) There are few active BOINC projects these days and there are few that can withstand the demands from the Teams and Members who get involved in each Sprint.
2) I give fair warning in advance to project admins and some reply very positively, and they ensure that there will have enough tasks available during the Sprint period.
3) If some projects use any DDOS blocking tools, then that is up to them (to protect their website from miscreants/spammers etc, and if you are affected (as an individual member), then it is YOUR responsibility to report this to the respective project admin(s) so that your IP address is put in their whitelist.
4) Looking at the BOINC credits being awarded on the Sprint it seem that very few others are having issues - and when you look at the BOINCstats table, many people are able to download and process tasks without issues.
5) As an admin, I can only set up the Sprints and make some pre-selections (in advance of the random selection process) to ensure that the Sprints will be successful and members can crunch tasks and the project can see the benefit.
I am sorry if your specific issues preclude you from taking part, but just because a small number of members have issues, there is no reason to totally exclude a project. Hopefully, you are not affected during other Sprints and I strongly suggest you contact the Asteroids admins to resolve this issue.
regards
Tim
